Grounded in Culture, Built from Community

Through collaborative leadership and a commitment to holistic well-being, we strive to empower Friendship Centre communities, honour the values of Indigenous governance and culture, and create pathways for future generations to thrive.

ANFCA maintains a direct link to Alberta’s urban Indigenous communities through its network of member Friendship Centres. Each Centre is independently organized and governed by a locally elected Board of Directors drawn from and accountable to their community.

Each Friendship Centre appoints two delegates to ANFCA’s Annual General Meeting. Those delegates form ANFCA’s provincial Board of Directors, ensuring every centre has an equal voice.

Elected by member delegates at the AGM the ANFCA Executive Committee oversees ANFCA’s strategic priorities between Board meetings.

By building our leadership from the ground up—community Boards to provincial governance to the national level (NAFC), we ensure that the needs, voices, and aspirations of Indigenous urban communities guide the design and delivery of programs and services at every tier.

ANFCA Operational Structure

ANFCA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the entire association. Reporting directly to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, the CEO turns the Board’s vision into concrete goals, driving program and service delivery, monitoring performance, and ensuring ANFCA meets our mission. To achieve these outcomes, the CEO is supported by a Senior Leadership Team, and a dedicated, diverse team of Managers, Initiative Leads, and Coordinators.

Our organizational chart represents a structure where leadership and guidance help filter challenges while fostering growth and collaboration. The web of the dreamcatcher illustrates the connections between different roles and teams, showing how each part contributes to the whole. The circular shape emphasizes unity and the idea that every team member plays a vital role in the work of ANFCA.
